Fireflies and Moonlight Reflections by the Country Lake

I stayed the night in a grassy area by a lake on June 11th. Unbeknownst to me, fireflies began emerging from the grass. There were fireflies to my left and the brilliant moon glowed all night to my right. Needless to say, I am tired today and have found a new place where I can study, worship Jesus, pray, and rest for a little while.

As I continue to spend time with God and study His Word, I discover so much more about Him—truths I wish all people on earth could know. He grieves when His children forget Him. He mourns the evil in the world, for He knows that sin and rebellion tear apart relationships—between Him and His people, within families, and even across nations. When pride and defiance take hold, destruction often follows, as history has shown. There is justice and consequence, but His heart remains full of love, longing for His people to turn back to Him.

The innumerable characteristics of God are truly splendid and amazing. As the Creator of all things, He offers a unique perspective and evokes a childlike wonder, even for creatures like fireflies. I stand in awe of His creation and wait upon Him.

Though there were many fireflies, I was not able to capture an image of one.

The color of the sunset was so intensely beautiful. It looked like a rose sun. It made me think about the first miracle of Jesus turning water into wine. The guests drank the best wine last instead of having it served first. When I read that story, I often wonder if the color of the wine was a beautiful rose color. John 2:1-11

The moon glowed brightly all night. It looked like a golden color was emanating from it.

The Lord is always faithful to shine through.

    Stromsburg, NE

While camping at Buckley Park in Stromsburg, NE, I was told to preach the gospel and chose to preach within the community near businesses for 2–3 hours, three days in a row. I met some locals who shared some of their practices of faith with me, New Testaments were given out, and some rejected the gospel.

One man prayed for me, who had an softened look in his blue eyes. Later that afternoon, while sitting in the park, I felt the presence of God fill the air with His peace and love. I didn’t want to leave at that moment. The colors of the trees were more vibrant, but more than that, the spirit of love that encompassed the area was so beautiful.

I pray for them as Christ instructs us to pray. I hope some seeds fall in softened hearts, and that they are part of the salvific, regenerating work of Christ.
